Is Britain Unequal?
Time & Location
About the Event
Britain is one of the most affluent societies in the world, but it is also one of the most unequal amongst the developed countries, says the Equality Trust. But what do we mean by equality?
Do we want to live in an equality (of outcomes) society or a fair (of opportunity) society? The top 20% of households in the UK earn over 50% of the income of the country. But people are not static. A socially mobile society rewards talent, and people in the bottom half of society often reach the top, and vice versa.
Equality, or the pursuit of it, evokes our passions and opinions. Come and explore with us the intricacies surrounding the pursuit of equality - what do we really want for ourselves and future generations?
